Goodbye, 2023… Hello 2024

I decided to dust off my keyboard this afternoon.

The past few years have been difficult, and I want to plan toward my future. I want to document decisions. Highlight disappointments. Show a process from beginning to end.

Therefore, I’m going to keep better track of my writing, my goals, the highs, and the lows, through this platform and social media. I’d like to find a community focused on professional development and diverse career success.

Fiction Goals

I published my first novel in 2023, and while I planned to push out two more books in 2023, the universe had other plans. I picked up a second job in the spring/summer that lasted for a few months, and then at the very end of September I broke my leg.

For 2024, I’d like to publish the sequel to Daughters of Madrona and a book in a separate universe. I can then rework the third installment of the Madrona series and plan for 2025 publication.

Ph.D. Goals

While I’ve previously worked on a Ph.D., I took a break to find a different path. Over the years, I’ve contemplated starting a new degree program, and then this fall I found the right program for me. I’m thrilled to start classes in January.

For 2024, I’d like to work towards my degree program and the bones of a research project that could lead to a publication or presentation in 2025.

Volunteering Goals

Over the past year, I’ve volunteered with a crisis hotline and identified local volunteer orgs that I would love to donate time to in the new year.

For 2024, I’d like to carve out time to work with local environmental orgs to preserve the beauty in our environment. This is important to me morally, but I want to show my kids why we care about the environment. This is a positive relationship for them to observe, as well.

Creative Goals

I’ll admit it – I didn’t knit for a long time. I didn’t pick up needles or look at yarn until I was in bed with a broken leg. My kids asked for knit socks for Christmas. Unfortunately, I only completed one sock before the big day, but my kids said they will happily accept late socks.

For 2024, I’d like to find creative outlets that aren’t writing fiction or TTRPGs. I knit and would like to start watercolors. Perhaps documenting these attempts on social media.
